Why the Dunhill Links was bigger than normal

With just under a year to go before the Ryder Cup all the players are trying to score as many points as possible to automatic picks for their respective teams. In 2023 team USA didn't hesitate to pick starts from the LIV Tour but team Europe is still refusing to allow anyone on LIV to play.

This weeks Dunhill links allowed LIV players to take part and saw big stars such as John Rahm, Tyrell Hatton and Brooks Koepka take part. All seeing this as a good chance to gain points for their Ryder Cup teams.

It was Tyrell Hatton who took full advantage becoming the 1st person to win the competition 3 times. It was his Saturday round at The Old Course when he equalled the course record with a 61 to catapult him into contention. It looked like it was going to be a comfortable win before a double bogey followed by another bogey on 13 and 14 opened the door. Hatton showed his class though making a birdie at the last to seal a one shot victory.

The victory has shot Hatton up to 5th in the European team rankings and also allows him to play in the DP World Tour ending events.

The other big news from the Dunhill links was the head of LIV and the PGA tour playing together as merger talks continue to reunite the game of golf. A deadline of the end of the year has been set but we have had this before with nothing coming out of it yet.
