Bob Macintyre claimed his PGA Tour victory on Sunday with a 1 shot win at the RBC Canadian Open. It is his first year on the PGA Tour and now gets exemption into the the final two bigger tour events and the US Open whilst also keeping his card.
It was a magical week for Bob as he had his dad on the bag for the event. With no one else available to caddie for him he called his dad last Sunday and he was on a flight Monday morning. Bob has already said his dad wouldn't take the job full time and will be returning to his head greenkeeper role.
There was a little bit of irony in the win as 12 months pervious another European star, Tommy Fleetwood, almost made it his first PGA Tour win but lost in a playoff to Canadian Nick Taylor who holed a 72 foot putt in the playoff. Taylor became the first Canadian player to win in 69 years. The Canadians were in dream land this year as well as McKenzie Hughes started with 4 birdies in his first 6 holes to join Bob at the top of the leader board. The challengers soon started to drop off and Bob made a series of birdies to open up a 5 shot lead. It was nervy finish but 2 solid 2 putts on 16 and 17 left him with a 1 shot lead going up the last with a par being enough to win by 1.
