With the 2nd major of the year about to kick off this week Rory McIlroy has turned up in great form. With 2 wins in the last few weeks, one being a doubles event, Rory is perfectly placed to challenge for his 5th major and 1st in 10 years. Scottie Scheffler is still favourite to win the event but with his wife pregnant with their child it isn't clear if Scottie will tee it up yet as his wife could go into labour at any time.
Yesterday Rory showed the world that he is still an unbelievable talent. He has a history of chasing down the leaders at The Wells Fargo Championship having won the event 3 times previously all being behind going into the last day. It was the same yesterday and Rory started a shot behind Xander Schauffele and after 7 holes that lead had increased to 2. This is when Rory turned it on and Xander couldn't hole a putt. From the 8th to the 15th Rory went round -8 for those 8 holes blowing Xander away. He did finish with a double bogey but as he had a 7 shot lead at this point it made no difference to the outcome.
The last time Rory won a major he had won the week previously and having won round Valhalla to claim a major before maybe the starts are all aligning for Rory to finally break that winless major run.
