It came home.... just not that one

12months on from an agonising one shot defeat from Rory McIlroy, Bob McIntyre has completed a boyhood dream of winning his national open.

Bob has already had a pretty solid season. He has been playing mainly on the PGA Tour and secured his first PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open with his dad on the bag. He returned home to Scotland last week to compete in the Scottish Open, a competition he has wanted to win since he was a wee lad. Many big names come and play in the Scottish Open as a warm up for The Open this week.

Last year Bob made a great birdie on the last 2 become joint leader with McIlroy but Rory made his own great birdie on the last to win by 1. This year it was roles reversed for McIntyre. After getting lucky on 16 with a wayward drive he hit a perfect approach leaving an 8ft eagle putt to join Adam Scott at the top of the leader board. He holed it and still had 2 holes to play. Scott was hitting his approach into 18 which he hit to about 10 ft for birdie. Bob didn't get it close and had around a 50ft for birdie. Scott would go first and miss whilst Bob was 2 putting to be level with Scott going down the last.

Adam could do nothing but wait to see what Bob would do. A solid tee shot and approach left around 15ft for victory and Bob snuck the putt in the side at the perfect speed. This sparked wild celebrations amongst all the supporters to see the favourite star win his home competition. Bob said after he would struggle to make The Open this week as he would be over the limit to drive with all the celebrating he was about to do. I'm sure a few more drinks were had as England lost to Spain in the football.

It all makes for an interesting week ahead with a number of big players having good rounds over the last 4 days all preparing for the best major of the year.
