Fleetwood close again

The FedEx Cup playoffs began last week with the St Jude Championship. The 1st of the 3 events that lead to crowning the FedEx Cup Champion. The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup rankings take part with the field going down to 50 for the 2nd and then 30 for the final.

The St Jude Championship was won by Lucas Glover, after beating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. Glover only needed a par to win the playoff with Cantlay finding the water. It meant that Glover won back to back PGA titles as he won the previous week at Wyndham Championship which took him into the top 70 in the rankings just to get into this competition. He also becomes the first 40+ year old player to win back to back on the PGA Tour since Vijay Singh in 2008. His victory here has shot him up to 4th overall. Pretty impressive considering it didn't look like he would make it all.

It was another chance for Tommy Fleetwood to get his first win on American soil but once again just fell short. Starting 2 shots behind going into the final round, Fleetwood shot a final round 2 under 68, missing a birdie putt on the last to miss out on the play off. He is arguably the form man on the PGA Tour, with 5 top 10 finishes in his last 6 starts. Fleetwood finished joint 3rd with Rory McIlroy who is aiming for a 4th FedEx Cup title. He currently sits 3rd in the rankings behind worlds number 1 and 2 in Rahm and Scheffler.

It should be a very interesting couple of weeks heading into the Ryder Cup.
